Former Real Madrid player Ricardo Carvalho has been sentenced to seven months in prison for tax crimes committed between 2011 and 2012 relating to the rights to market his image after an agreement was reached between the prosecutor and the player who admitted what he did.
Carvalho was fined € 142,822. The state defense had demanded that the Portuguese be held for one year and fined 300,000 euros.
During the oral hearing, Carvalho's defense acknowledged his action and confirmed the prosecution's claim, according to the Second Circuit Court of Madrid.
The court said in its ruling that Carvalho had paid the full sum of the tax evasion (€ 545,981) and admitted his action prior to his knowledge of the lawsuit against him.
Carvalho has played two seasons for Real Madrid between June 2010 and June 2012, now 39 years old and playing in the Shanghai Seabag.
