German clubs are threatened with losing their European position

After two rounds of the Champions League and one of the European League, German football has received a "tough lesson", with only one win.

In the Champions League, Dortmund lost their matches against Tottenham and Real Madrid. Bayern won the first on Anderlecht, the second deservedly lost to Paris Saint-Germain, Leipzig equalized in front of Monaco in the first and lost second to Besiktas.

The European champions, who are on their second tour on Thursday, were modest in the first. Hertha Berlin tied with Athletic Bilbao in Berlin, Cologne lost to Arsenal in London and Hoffenheim lost at home to Sporting Braga.

The level has been falling for years

But the decline of the German clubs in the European Championships began a while ago. Ever since the Bayern Munich win in the Champions League final against Dortmund in 2013, no German club has won a European championship or even reached the final.

Last season (2016/2017), for the first time since the 2004/05 season, Germany did not qualify for a European semi-final. In April 2017 Bayern Munich and Dortmund were out of the Champions League quarter-finals, while Schalke conceded a quarter The European League final, this is a troubling indicator, especially for the "five-year assessment."

Germany and the European Five-Year Assessment

Many fear that the German ball will lose its value amid those results, which are not commensurate with the elegance of its clubs or the possibilities of its players.

Germany has recently lost to England in the European Clubs' Assessment, which takes into account the past 5 seasons and determines the number of clubs from each country who are eligible to participate in European tournaments.

The current assessment starts from 2013/2014 and continues until the end of the current season 2017/2018. Spain top with 92 points, England with 65 points, Germany with 64 points, Italy with 63 points, France with 48 points and Russia with 45 points.

Starting in the next season (2018/2019), each of the first four countries will have the right to four permanent seats in the Champions League, two permanent seats in the European league and one seat in the European Championship qualifiers.

But Kicker says there is no fear for Germany, they will not be out of the fourth place in this five-point assessment; even if Dortmund and Leipzig emerge from the group stage with European champions, and the three German clubs of the European league have been as nostalgic as usual in the tournament. France have more than 15 points, and will not exceed this season.

However, the German Welt website says that "the German ball must now be creative, especially as Paris (Saint-Germain) and the English clubs will continue to arm themselves strongly."

"Youth support alone is not enough, but we must also look for new revenue-generating sources that must match the trends of the transfer market."
